To Our Family and Friends
We are excited to announce that we have decided to start our family through international adoption. We will be adopting an infant boy between the ages of 6-12 months old from Kazakhstan. There are many reasons why we chose Kazakhstan, but the most important is because the baby houses (orphanages) have a wonderful reputation, the developmental health of the children seems to be well above many other countries and the children are well provided for and loved by their caregivers. We considered domestic adoption (in the US), but decided that international adoption had a more concrete timeline and was more predictable.
We are in the “waiting” phase of the process in that we’ve completed the home study and all the paperwork and are waiting to receive the referral (picture and medical report) for our child. Once we accept the referral, we will travel approximately 1-2 months later to meet our baby. We will travel for 4-6 weeks, with the first 2 weeks designated to getting to know our baby in the baby house through daily visits (bonding period). We hope to travel by May/June 2006.
This website will give more details of our adoption journey and will allow you to view updates during our stay in Kazakhstan. Thanks to all of you who have already given us support and encouragement. Our dream of becoming parents is soon to be a reality! ~ A
